Posted March 18th, 2009

On March 9, 2009 President Obama signed an executive order to lift the ban on stem cell research funding in the U.S. This is a monumental moment in history, as further research of embryonic stem cells could lead to great scientific discoveries. JDRF’s new President and CEO, Dr. Alan Lewis, said: “We’re very grateful to President Obama for setting in place a policy to fully explore this promising field of science. President Obama’s Executive Order is a strong signal to patients, scientists, and the nation that we have his full support to pursue science that may accelerate progress to new treatments and possible cures for diabetes.”

Thank you to all JDRF friends and families who have made this legislation a reality! For more coverage of Obama’s executive order and information regarding embryonic stem cell research, please visit the JDRF website.
