We’ve Made It This Far…Let’s Walk The Extra Mile Together!
Posted June 17th, 2009
Thank you! These may be two small words; however, for all of us dedicated to finding a cure for diabetes, they carry the weight of recognizing the tremendous impact your support has on JDRF. As a Walk participant, you joined us in our efforts to raise the funds needed to continue our important mission – to find a cure for diabetes.
The Capitol Chapter’s 2009 Walk to Cure Program attracted more than 5,000 walkers who have raised nearly $1.2 million so far! With your continued commitment, and just over $250,000 left to go toward our $1.4 million goal, I am confident that we will achieve our goal and surpass all expectations! You have worked hard as members of your Walk Teams, but now it is time for all of us to join together as the JDRF Walk Team!
In an effort to reach our goal we challenge every walker to raise an additional
$75.00 by June 30th!
If this challenge is successful we will reach our goal!
There are a number of easy ways to raise additional funds including collecting outstanding pledges or hosting a third party fundraiser, such as a car wash, bake sale or restaurant night. We also encourage you to create a message using Walk Day Photos and highlights and share your walker experience with family and friends not able to join you on Walk Day. All funds received by June 30th will help you to qualify for Walk prizes and awards.
Closing the Gap Incentives
As a special Thank You to those helping us close the gap, we will be holding a grand prize drawing. Every Walker that turns in ANY DONATION between today and June 30th will receive one (1) entry into the drawing for a chance to win one of two prizes: a pair of Cal Ripkin autographed sneakers or an Alex Ovechkin autographed hockey puck.
And for those of you working hard to achieve the title of “Top Fundraising Individual” there is a wonderful prize waiting for you. As of 5:00pm on June 30th the Walker with the most money raised will receive the MVP award which includes Four (4) tickets to attend the taping of ESPN’s Pardon the Interruption. (All winners will be notified by July 10th)
We look to you for help as we reach for our fundraising goal. Never forget that every dollar you raise will ultimately impact a researcher in a laboratory who may be the one to say, “I’ve found it! I have discovered the cure for diabetes.” You never know which dollar that will be. We know that no matter what is going on in the world, diabetes never takes a break…and neither will JDRF. We will not stop in our quest for a world free from diabetes!
Together we will “Walk the Extra Mile” and be known as the people who cured diabetes.
With gratitude,
The JDRF Capitol Chapter Walk Team
