People with Type 1 Diabetes aged 18+, both veterans and newly diagnosed
What: A Type 1 Diabetes Support Group
Where: Virginia Hospital Center’s Diabetes Self-Management Program’s Classroom

Arlington, VA 22204
When: The group will meet twice a month on the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month. The second Wednesday are planned activities (i.e. film screening, happy hour, etc.) and the fourth Wednesdays are support group meetings.
Why: Did you know there are currently no support groups in Arlington dedicated solely for people with Type 1 Diabetes? The Diabetes Self-Management Program in the Virginia Hospital Center realized the demand for such a group in Arlington, and so this support group was born. Meet fellow Type 1 Diabetics in a trusting environment where you can confide in and relate to one another at meetings, while celebrating and enjoying life at planned activities and events.

Elizabeth Kalmus, a 26-year-old young professional living in Arlington, VA, will lead the Type 1 Diabetes Support Group. Elizabeth was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when she was five, and within the past year received her first insulin pump.
