What: Join more than 4,500 local participants from the DC area walking to raise $1.6 million to support research to find a cure for juvenile (type 1) diabetes.  Besides the Walk itself, the day will include plenty of free food, live entertainment, games for kids and festivities both before and after the event.

Why: Juvenile (type 1) diabetes strikes children suddenly, makes them insulin dependent for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications such as stroke, blindness, and amputation. JDRF International, a Forbes top-rated charity, is the leading charitable funder and advocate of diabetes research worldwide. Founded in 1970 by parents of children with juvenile (type 1) diabetes, JDRF’s mission is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Since its inception in 1970, JDRF has awarded more than $1.16 billion to diabetes research.
